Hi, I just got my Tascam Dr 40 and am going to hook it up to my PSC Promix 3 mixer. The mixer has male xlr and the tascam has 1/4 plugs.

So this should work right? Does anyone know of a shorter length? This one is 1.5 feet.

orry, I just don't want to make a mistake. I searched for threads on hooking up a mixer and recorder and wasn't so lucky. I know it is a simple question but I am a bit paranoid lol.

Thanks.

Looks good to me. You could also use XLR-M to XLR-F and send mic level from your mixer to the recorder's XLR mic inputs.

Would that be using the tascam dr 40's preamps? Thx. Mic level is not as hot, right? I had read and was told line level was better, generally, right? Unless the recorder can't handle it. Any suggestions? I know a lot is trial and error, just trying to avoid the error part, lol. Thanks!

If you go XLR>XLR at mic level, you will be using the DR-40s pre-amps (though they'll have minimal work to do). The beautiful part of the DR-40 is that it can take +4dB line-level via balanced (TRS) 1/4"... so that's really the way to go.
