is this place getting clicky?

More like Neighborhood Crime Watch...

Squealing implies a rat or a NARC - that the squealer was in on it. Alex was talking about someone being witness to abuse, which is not the same at all.

Again, if you are so insecure that you feel the need to "report" a post, as Alex indicates, perhaps you're too immature [for lack of a better term] to be on these forums.
The thing that Dear Mod Alex should have said is to PM the person and talk "off the record" about whatever may be a problem, and use the "report" button only as a last resort, it's all too easy to just make someone else fix it for you with a single click on a report button.
The world is not all pink and rosy as everyone is taught it is in school these days, it's a tough bastard especially if you want to get into filmmaking or "Hollywood" in these times.
If a comment on a forum makes you run to the report button feeling hurt, you're in for a very tough time in life.
Not what everyone wants to hear, but it is the truth.
The "industry" does not care about your "feelings" in any form, only your ability.

Jordan I agree.. no where in my forum posts did I ever say that my grammer needed to be perfected.. when I write.. I use spell checker the entire time.. if you are going to count me out so to speak for my spellling on a forum then I think you've gone way past what I am getting at ... my misspellings here have nothing to do with me be a pro or not...

I never said once that I am being insulted personally.. .. this thread got way off track by whatever means... Im merely pointing out a huge change I've seen within a few years of a free spirited forum for helping and sharing to one that frowns upon a newbie for mabe asking a dumb question.. and I believe there are no dumb questions,, only the way you deal with that question will show your class or igorance. plain and simple..

Yea, I guess it did.

Well, I owe a great deal of my knowledge to DVXUser, so I contribute in any way I can back to the community. This time last year I was selling off textbooks to buy the cheapest field monitor I could find (the $150 Lilliput), so I know what it's like to not have a lot to throw around. I'll always try to help in finding budget options for Users, when I can.

But your answer does show how you handle criticism [my point].

You have a ways to go.

Honestly, I've been on here for a lot of years. Had a more obtuse SN back then. Wanted to be like the cool kids and represent in my real name. Anyway, bottom line? DVX grew up. The cats who used to be the newbs are now shakin and bakin. But they still come here to toss a few back and commiserate.Usually you can recognize them because they're in yellow -- but not always! So I think there's a separation (probably just a basic age-based one) but also like what was said, a separation of those who work and those who dream. :)In all honesty, eventually the old guard will shift to more pay-for forums and exist in primarily a monitoring capacity here. I THINK! But whoever knows what the superstar indie filmmakers of today are up to? Crazy kids. :D

Not picking on him, just giving him "criticism" about spelling to see how he handled it.

That's just spelling, not camera work, editing, budgeting etc etc... you know, "the industry".

He didn't handle as well as I had hoped he might.

In an overt, "off the record" manner, I think that test would have been fine.

But throwing it back on the forum kind of makes my point and his...maybe.

Kind of seems like you're pricking him just to see if he bleeds...

No, his point was that there should be positive support basically to every question asked on the forums (keeping in mind everything is in the eye of the beholder).
I gave him a blunt response to his spelling and punctuation, blunt.

Now, if you look at his posts since I did that..... he corrected both.

No hand holding, no head patting.

Blunt to the point.

It works.

pookie. I only respelled some things for the purpose of satisfying you for the moment.. my spelling technique on a forum, facebook, common emails, text, are the least of my worries.. Heck my wife teases me about it all the time.. The point I was trying to elude was,, this wasnt about my grammer.. never been a worry.. I never let the little things get me down.. if and when I post some of my work on here. I will not only expect harsh criticism, but will welcome it.. I want to learn, and learn from what I am doing wrong.. what better way to do that .. not by letting my friends watch it and give me a thumbs up everytime but to let those guys that have succeeded in what I am doing tell me where I went wrong.. THAT is what I will be looking for.. Criticism and rudeness are a long way off from each other..

Look, this business as many others is very harsh. As stated, you do need to develop thick skin to thrive. That said, we really should strive to be as helpful as possible here. Isn't that what this forum is for?

I create videos for an airline, which means shooting a lot of talking heads on the green screen, except the talking head could be a Vice President of the company. I've spouted off things - that would otherwise be perfectly acceptable on a film set - that have come very close to getting me in trouble because I sounded rude or even insulting, when it was just a matter of moving things quickly.

Just skimming through this thread & derailing it a bit further…..^ this example brings up an important point if you want to make a living in a professional environment. If I can give any advice to the younger crowd on this forum, keep your mouth shut in front of the "Vice President" or whoever the client is and just do your job.
