Wow, that's really crisp for Squeeze Mode. Here I thought it reduced the quality a lot.

That is a bit odd. It should be around 853x480. And your image there is something like 960 pixels wide. Shoot a person and see if their face looks a little stretched out when you capture it, have them tilt their head side to side and see if you notice distortion.
