Hey folks,

I'm a Mac Pro user and my dual core from 3 years ago has seen its best days go by.

I'm a Final Cut editor but also need After Effects for Freelancers in my machine. I'm working mostly with a mixture of AVCHD & DSLR footage (T2i) so the HD is sluggish on my machine especially when other big programs are open.

I have a friend who had this machine built for him but he doesn't use Apple machines normally so I wanted to see from the peanut gallery if this seems like a good machine for my needs because its certainly a lot less expensive than a real mac.

I think I'm allowed to post this link - its not minr, I'm interested in purchasing. If not, mods, let me know.

$2200+ is way too expensive for a Hack , when you can buy a real Mac Pro
For less
http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB871LL/A?mco=MTEzMzA3MDk

Which uses a professional server processor ( Xeon ) which is better than any i3,i5,i7 etc.

Do yourself a favor and buy that refurbished Mac Pro I linked you too

Providing that software installed on that Hack without a license transfer, removal from old computer, and transfer of the original discs violates the EULA.

That alone is a huge issue apart from the whole OS X EULA issue.

I would steer clear of all the "Hackintoshes", they will run FCP and appear to be somewhat stable, they are buggy as hell. it's a cool novelty, but thats about it. you can get a mac pro for under 2k, just keep an eye on ebay. I saw a twin dual 3.0 for 1600 a few days ago. I just sold my twin dual core, and will be buying a dual quad right after xmas. they are all over the place on ebay right now for about 2200 and up.

final thought would be to save up a couple more hundred bucks and get a legit machine, or you will be pulling your hair out when you are 95% done with a project and your Hackintosh starts to error out.

And I say, "Right on!"

@David S - I wasn't concerned with software, I own legit versions, was more interested in the box and the hardware.

Thanks to the others. I'm leaning towards just ponying up for an 8-core new machine. My dual core has given me 3 solid years. As expensive as it is, 4-6K (depending on innards) isn't a terrible investment. Thoughts on that?

yeah just spend some extra money and get a real Mac.
re-sale value for Mac's are great too, but not good for Hacks....
in the long run you'll save more money if you get a Mac:)

Understood, but when someone advertises to provide that, it just brings a red flag to the table.
