Is this EX1 package complete?

Hi,

So I wanted to get an EX3, but given that cameras are so expensive here in the UK (the EX3 is being priced at around £7000) I feel I shall instead get an EX1 with the extras I want for it. I intend to get a Letus 35mm adaptor too, so I've listed what I'm thinking of below. Would you gents/ladies please tell me what you think and if I've missed anything out? It'd be my first 35mm swandive so I don't know if I've included all that I need:

Camera - EX1
Batteries - supplied & 1 large for spare
Storage - 2x8gb with camera + at least 2x16gb, maybe more
Tripod - I currently have a Manfrotto 701RC2/Manfrotto 745B that's served me well over the years with my DVX and my travels. However I appreciate that the setup I'm talking here is a stage above with all the extra 35mm stuff, so do you feel I need to upgrade?
Filters - I will get a UV and Polarising at first, perhaps others at a later date when my bank balance returns to non-crapping itself levels!
Case - Haven't selected one yet, but appreciate I will need to get one, prob a soft case, although if I will have lenses in it too...

35mm setup
Letus Extreme - I would wait for the ultimate, but I've been reading here that it's gonna be $4000, which puts it well beyond me

Now if I'm right in saying I'll need a rod support system to support the lenses. I see Letus do the Start Bundle that seems alright, but I don't really know what sizes of these I need. Am I right in thinking I don't need a new base plate or anything fancy for the tripod? I.E. The baseplate within the rod support system attaches to the tripod, the camera is held a bit higher up on a small platform, the Letus then is below and attached to the lens that is itself supported by the rods?

I also have no idea about mounts or rings or anything like that. I've read here that people recommend Nikon lenses because they've had the same mount for years and as such suitable lenses are more common. I however don't know what this means I need to get as it's frankly pretty overwhelming!

p.s. does the ex1 has an issue with edge to edge sharpness i've been reading about with the extreme or does the fix now come with the package?

Lenses - if Nikon

Nikon 50mm, 25-30mm, perhaps a zoom as recommended on the sticky threads from the 35mm forum

Thank you if you are able to offer any advice. I really don't know much about this stuff but I'm eager to learn. For example I've been reading all about this backfocusing tracking stuff, no idea what it all is though!

Cheers,
Andy

Cant comment on everything in this list here but it looks pretty good to me.

You might want to concider 2 large batteries, they are not that expensive and always come in handy.

Your tripod looks good enough, you might want to consider a better fluid head, the legs are more then fine though.

The letus, I don't know anything about.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to know that my stuff that I've had for a long time will still be usable!

Oh, I have one more query if that's ok - would you please tell me how to check the hours meter. I've met another 2nd hand seller who claims low usage, but doesn't know himself how to check the hours and I'd like to know for when I see the camera!

Cheers

agree about batteries, don't buy 2 or more 16Gb, in July PHU-60K will be out, so you won't need that much, not sure if you need a lens controller, but I really find it very helpful, or maybe just a habit :-); Letus would be great, but it's more like "very nice to have" than "you need it" , all the rest looks good to me,
hours meter in: press menu scroll down to the others >hours meter
good luck!

Your tripod is not good at all . do your math with all the gear and you know what to get . If you are in the U.K. look a t a Libec tripod like the 55 or at least the 38

I personally do not have a very high opinion of Manfrotto tripods, being much more partial to Sachtler myself. I've been using the EX-1 on a Sachtler FSB-6 head and really like the side-release feature as well as the balance/counterweight features. Don't put all that great gear on an inferior set of sticks.
