Is This Clip Salvageable?

Hey everyone, just got some footage back from a green screen shoot, and we're a little worried. Looking for some professional advice on whether we can save this or not. Unfortunately a reshoot is impossible, so we're looking to figure out how in the hell we're going to fix this and key out the green.

Needless to say, this clip is a mess. Lighting isn't uniform, the green screen is wrinkled, and we've got a little spill on the subject. The left and right sides need to be cropped, so we're really only concerned with getting the subject isolated.

Here's a sample clip: VIEW CLIP

Thanks for your input! - Ben

That's a big bag of hurt!

It won't look too pretty, White balance is horrid. Looks like the more then one channel has some pretty bad clipping in it. It was over exposed, or saturation has been artificially driven way too much. Trying to fix that and you'll see lots of loss in detail. So irregardless of Keying properly, it's gonna look horrible.

I see a re-shoot at the easiest solution. Too much wrong with that to be worth your POST time. Of course, since you say re-shooting is impossible, do you really have a choice? Not really much point in asking if you already know the answer.... Try to make it work, or ditch it all together.

The only way I can see saving some of this is to use a garbage matte to iso the talent as much as possible, clean up the exposure problem as much as possible with the 3-way corrector, call an attorney and ask the photog for damages based upon gross incompetence. Get a competent shooter, re-shoot (regardless of the expense) and let this photog (person) pay for it all. You'll turn out to be the bad guy anyway so I would correct the problem any way that you can and let the "real" bad guy foot the bill.
Good Luck,
Ken

Salvageable if you send to a compositing professional. I can get rid of pretty much everything, but the BRIGHT green spots in the middle, using the built in Primatte keyer in FCP 7. The right side I can crop out, but the left runs up against talent.

It's salvageable. Just a LOT of work.

I got pretty much the same thing with Primatte in Motion. It didn't take long, though.

Here's my take at it, took a couple of minutes to do.

With enough time + $ I can get it perfect

Thanks for the feedback gents, appreciate ya'll taking the time to look into this for a brother. Yeah a reshoot would be impossible unfortunately so it's definitely encouraging to see Ciolent and Shane's crack at the keying.

Luckily the final destination for this is about a 250pixel by 250pixel web video window for a website, so the resolution won't be in the original HD format it was captured in.

Keep you posted on the progress, thanks again!
