is this a reputable site?

I know these are no arris but would you recomend buying from this site? I dont lite all the time probably once every two months for shorts. I usually DP on sets where there are already grips with there own lights.

I believe it is, but you'd be far better off buying used Mole-Richardson lights off ebay or from a rental house. You'll understand why they are professional.

Tom at Rostronics is a good guy and, in my personal experience, responsive to his customers.
However, the lights themselves are Briteks. Very basic units with less than stellar build quality (at least in the past few years). Bulb contacts are a particular weak point, with arcing that leads to very early bulb burnout being a common problem (I had 2 quick burnouts, 1 of them related to the bad contact issue).
They are inexpensive for a reason...you might be better off buying a used Lowel kit or, as Macville suggests, buying used individual units on ebay or local craigslist.
Hope this helps.

I've had a set of Briteks for about 4 years and they haven't let me down. But, as Ken said, their quality control seems to have dropped in the last couple of years. It's too bad, because they used to be a nice, low-budget alternative for beginners.

I have been using Arri lights for the last few films I dped on. They werent myne they were the studios. It was a much bigger budget then im used to. I would bennefit from cheep lights because I have the ocassional odd job I have to supply all the stuff for. As long as they work as well as Arri's and lowels (with the exception of dropping them and having them shadder im cool with that) I can deal with an occasional burn out if it meens the difference of thousands of dollars.
