Is it better than a Macbook pro? I've put the specs side by side and seems better than spending 2000- on a Macbook pro but then again this has vista (I dont really care for vista) so I don't know. I need some editors who know about these comps. The Dell was priced at 1599- before tax. the mac i was looking at was either the $1999- OR THE $2499-

Like Horse said, it depends on your NLE. The software prices can vary somewhat depending on what you're going to use. If you want to use Final Cut, it's going to be a Mac. Anything else, you can go PC.

The question isn't CAN you edit with it. My wife is editing DV in FCP on a 600mhz ibook with 256MB's of ram, so you can edit on almost anything made in the past 7 years. The question is how fast and how comfortably.

And what are you editing? I am running a Dell Inspiron with these specs:

1.6 Centrino Duo
1gig Ram
Built in Intel graphics
ext USB for footage

and I can cut SD DV and XDcam-HD no problem on Vegas. It isn't the fastest thing in the world, but my productivity isn't hampered because of it. So depending on what you are cutting, you have plenty of horsepower.

Hey guys, thanks for the quick replies, I really appreciate it. I really have yet to work with any bigger editing programs. I am learning Avid's system by using the Avid Free DV prog. but in the past used (DON'T LAUGH) Window's Movie Maker to cut my first short film last year. I'm recently working a new job with crazy hours so really have yet to play with any other programs. I was aiming on Avid only cause thats really the only prog. I've used so far but if theres anything user friendly feel free to let me know. Maybe Premiere Pro, FCP, Vegas etc.

To be honest my 2.6ghz 1 gig ddr memory was lagging when I would use W.M.M. to edit the first short and I couldn't take that cause I like to work fast as I can. Hit me back on this topic if you guys can help out some more and thanks again.

George

P.S. Has anyone tried running these programs with Vista yet? And how has Vista treated them?

Yes, you can edit on it. Yes, it will be verry speedy. No, it wont be better then the top of the line MacBook Pro.

One of the nice things about Vegas is that it'll run well on pretty much anything. You can download and use the demo for 30 days to see if you'll like it.
