RODE NTG-2 Shotgun
RODE Boom pole
K-TEK Zeppelin Fuzzy Windscreen
RODE Shockmount
Audio Technica Premium AT8314 XLR cables

I allready have an AKG c1000 shotgun, but not a good blimp and pole. I will have it as an alround kit for both interiour and exteriour use. My budget is quite limited, and this is the only all-round alternative where i get "everything" for a good price.

My question is; is this worth $469.00, or should I save even more for a better kit?

- Thank you

B&H has a pretty wide range of shotgun kits with mic, fur, pole, etc etc... they're in the print catalog, not sure if they're on-line. the kits go from the Rode to a Sennheiser.

Main problem is they have an 8-ft aluminum pole; the 12' carbon poles aren't much more and are well thought of here.

The Rode pole is notoriously crappy (some will tell you they like it). I would think you could do better buying al la carte and getting a good pole.

If you want the Rode pole then I guess go for it.

Cheers

You can get a qitzo carbon fiber pole for $150 (or a 12' one for $250). The Rode shockmount is pretty good for the money ($50) as you can use it on a boom or on camera without an adapter. I have heard good things about that k-tek fuzzy and the shotgun is the "budget" model of choice around here. Rode also makes a "dead cat" for $50 that is essentially a fuzzy cloth sleeve that slips over the stock foam windscreen. I bought one as a cheap interim solution and it works well in moderate wind. You may be able to get away with it depending on what/where you are shooting. BTW, what are you shooting? You may want a hyper instead if you are shooting mostly interieiors. I would go a la carte like wabbit said (he really knows what he is talking about).

I will use it as an allround kit for mostly shorts and perhaps ultralow budget commercials.

How is the NTG-2 compared to other mics in the same or higher price range?

It is a pretty good mic for the money. The next step up (for shotguns) is the Audio Technica 4073a for around $550. If you are shooting mainly interiors, you may want to think about the Oktava, but there are some extra things you need to make that work (special shock/wind protection) and so it will be a few hundred dollars more by the time you are done.
