is this a good computer for editing/ importing footage?

It looks like it should be fast enough and has enough hard drive storage. You should check with your editing software computer requirements. Make sure the video card can import video.

It depends very much on what your editing program's specifications require. It's also generally not a good idea to have your edit system and video media storage on the same hard drive. It's better to have a separate hard drive for media storage.

This is footage from the DVX, specifically?

That computer with Vegas Pro will smoke. In the good way!

(That doesn't mean you'll personally like Vegas -- that's a personal preference -- but purely from a performance standpoint, it'll sizzle.)

i use premiere pro cs5, and i have a dvx100 right now( the og dvx) and eventually i will upgrade to the hmc40 but prolly will still shoot in 720p. but i already have a 1tb hard drive just for the video

Should work fine, but you want an Nvidia CUDA-enabled video card, not a Radeon. CS5's Mercury Playback Engine uses the Nvidia CUDA cards for better performance. And I'd add in some more RAM before you start editing footage from the HMC40. 8GB is fine, but more will be better.
