Is this a Canon Battery?

Hey all,

Bought what I thought was a Canon LP-E6 battery off a seller on ebay. The listing looked legit, the seller had excellent feedback. I received the battery in the proper Canon packaging, put it on the charger and... nothing. The charger didn't recognize the battery and the camera couldn't communicate with it. It was only then that I looked more closely at the battery itself and discovered that it looked nothing like my others I have. So I am pretty sure that this is not a Canon battery.

However, I emailed the seller and was told that the reason it looked different was that it was the new 2011 battery! So i'm thinking, "Uh huh, sure" but thought I would get some feedback from somebody first before I outright accused them of selling a fake.

So does anybody have a 2011 Canon battery that looks like this? It's the one on the bottom.

The attachement isn't working... sound's a bit dodgy though.

My fake LP-E6 look exactly the same except the colour of the casing is a little different.

Why don't you just get a refund/replacement seeing as it's a dud?
 
Oops, sorry. Not sure how to fix this but I added a link to the jpg via dropbox.

I asked for a refund but the seller would only give me a replacement. So I asked if they would check that the replacement have the Canon logo on the battery itself and that I would not accept anything else. Is that a reasonable request or do you think I am being a little too suspicious?

I wouldn't mind if it was a third party battery if I hadn't paid full retail price for it! :(

For sure a 3rd party. I have about a dozen 3rd party and a few OEM. Everything OEM that I've had from Canon battery wise has their logo on it. All my 3p batteries look like the one you got.

Thanks Shigeta, This is my experience too! I just wanted to make sure that I was being fair to the seller. I hope they return the sentiment! :)
