Is there only one Tamron 17-50mm

I know there is one with image stab. and one without, and I am looking to buy the one without it to save money. But my question is this: Is there a full frame and the 7d sensor size frame version of this lens? Before I start bidding on ebay items I want to make sure that I don't bid on something that won't work correctly on the 7D...

The one for Canon cameras is optimized for the APS-C sensor of the 7D.

I have mine sitting in the box with no camera to attach to. :(

okay, well that is what i thought but an ebayer told me he was using his Tamron on a 5d and it just made me nervous that i was wrong on that... if he used it, then he was vignetting i guess...
thanks for the help

The Canon version with VC is not out yet, maybe this month, just the Sony and Nikon mount versions.

Thing to keep in mind... the stabilizer noise will be picked up by the 7D in the internal mic and even on external shotguns. Its way too loud but it is somewhat more effective than the cheap versions on EF-S canon brand lenses. This lens is great for the price.

There are two manufacturing facilities for this lens. All US versions should be made in Japan. These lenses are preferred, as the build quality and performance exceeds those made in China/Taiwan.

Nick,

I see you are in Atlanta. Where'd you score your camera if you don't mind me asking?

Together we complete each other, or just form a 7D with a Tamron lens on it.

Going insane waiting for this thing.

I was going to suggest you guys go out for dinner and a movie or something... :-) I'm sitting here with the Tamron and two EF USM primes, 32GB Kingston CF and just got a FaderND in the mail...no camera from Amazon. It's painful.

Chance,

This is destiny.

I preordered my camera from JR a while back...like the day after the camera was up for preorder. Do you have an order in anywhere at all? I just ordered the 17-50, hoodloupe, batteries, and cards yesterday...if I would have known about this coincidence I would have ordered a 70-200 2.8 and we could have taken over the world...literally...by force.

We should talk. Haha.

I'm not certain but I think the DII is equivalent of EFS and DI is equivalent of EF. I'm not sure but I dont think you could use a DII on a 5D but all will work on the 7D. Someone will certainly correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW, my Tamron will soon be sitting on my shelf too as soon as it gets here waiting for me to get the camera

The equivalent full frame lens is the Tamron 28-75 f2.8, that's the one to use on full frame. No manufacturer makes a full frame 17-50, the best you can find is like the 16-35 or the Nikon 17-35. The tamron 17-50 is a great lens for the price, but kind of weak build quality.

If you're going to do any handheld at all, you'll definitely want that image stabilization.
