Is there anyway to use an external monitor without losing built in monitor signal????

I ask because i really need the option of being able to use an external monitor but obviously don't want the operator not being able to see the image.

There must be a way around this, isn't there?????????

Theres no way i can afford two monitors and i didn't want to carry my expensive laptop around with me.

You can get a netbook and it will work with that.
