Is there any P&S that shoots HD that will reasonably match a Canon DSLR?

nothing

Who here has intercut P&S footage with Canon DSLR footage? How about GoPro footage, how does it hold up next to HDSLRs for quick wide cutaways?

Needing a cheap C camera. Pocketable / wearable would be a plus. Picture controls that allow flattening would be a big plus (shooting Cinestyle on Canons).

small sensor usually means:
* very deep DoF
* very low DR
* lots of noise at anything but ISO 100

but for some specific situations (wide shot with lots of light but not a lot of DR) it may work
you'd need to set a budget, though

Is the criteria met at any price?

Newer larger sensor P&Ss included - and shallow DOF is so overused.

I think model like panasonic lx5 and fz150 are fine..at least they give full manual exposure control in video..very cool

Sony HX9V. Prove me wrong, you cant, its amzing.

Here is the side-by-side comparison that convinced me to get the $490 FZ150 instead of the $330 HX9V or $430 HX100V (in addition to the Panasonic's external mic jack and unlimited recording time):

"Sony HX9v tested against the Panasonic FZ150 for both stills and video performance"

I don't know how Panasonic signal processing engineers get this kind of image quality out of little bitty sensors, but they do.

Cheers,

Bill

Why is the best quality I can watch that in 720? I work in a camera shop and obviously get to play with all the cameras that come through the door (for science of course). The HX9 came out in that price bracket head and shoulders above rest at 1080p. Maybe that was just, me though. Also 60fps looks awesome on it as well. Adding also that the Panasonic isn't really a point n shoot!
