Is There Any Chance to Upgrade the Viewfinder/LCD?

This camera makes some nice images and is a pleasure to handhold but the low resolution monitoring is killing me!

I would pay a decent amount to be have recent resolution viewfinders & LCDs put on this camera...if at all possible.

It really is a sticking point for me but quite frankly there are not many cameras that are this lightweight.

The new AF-100 looks lightweight but is not the best for live or event type shooting.

I probably already know the answer...:(

Thanks Barry. This is a great suggestion. $600 is about the limit to put into this camera but it would make a difference. Although as an HDMI device I don't know how much if any one could adjust constrast and brightness to calibrate it.

A retrofit with the AF-100 screens would be the mod. Is there a snowball's chance that the AF-100 and the HMC-150 share the same size viewfinder that could be set into the HMC-150? This would really extend the life of the camera.

Well, it's not just that though. Size is one thing, but will they actually connect and work? The HPX500's viewfinder output is black & white, standard-def. So you could put an $8,000 color HD viewfinder on there and it wouldn't make a difference, you'd still have a B&W, SD image.

The 150 and AF100 viewfinder tubes do seem to be of similar sizes, but frankly, I don't think this modification would be possible by someone who's less than a whiz at electronics. I think the external plug-it-in viewfinder idea is far more practical, and it leaves the HMC150 unmodified so you could sell it (and the redrock evf) separately if it came time to move on to new equipment.

Hi Bassman

I found the same problem. I decided to purchase the Marshall V-LCD50 (5" monitor) from DVESTORE (ebay) for $500. This monitor has their new
FALSE COLOURS technology and PEAKING METER and several other superb check systems (focus, exposure, colour temp, RGB bias and gain, checkfield and more!).
The system is awesome and is an absolute delight to use. Marshall also do 7" monitor. The False Colour system means the image on the monitor
becomes black and white and IRE colours are superimposed onto the image (not recorded!). The monitor can be calibrated and
BRIGHTNESS, COLOUR and CONTRAST can all be adjusted on the monitor. The system works for me superbly. The guys at
DVESTORE were really helpful. I just could not get on with WFM on the HMC150. There are several YouTube reviews etc.
