Is there a way to turn off the on-camera lcd when using a monitor connected via HDMI?

I wouldn't mind saving some battery on my D800 when I'm just looking at my DP6.

Yes, in the HDMI menu just select to switch off the liveview.

You have a D800? I'm in the HDMI menu and all I see is output resolution, output range, output display size, and live view on-screen display.

Switch Live View on-screen display to off. Then, when the monitor fires up the LCD switches off.

All that does is turn on or off the information on the external monitor depending if I want to use it for monitoring or for recording uncompressed video.
