Is there a *true* Pentax to Nikon mount adapter?

The concensus in most other forums seems to be "no"... eventhough I've seen about 5 different types of adapters that claim to do the job.

I basically want to use the Pentax SMC-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited on a Nikon mount camera.

From memory the Pentax K mount has a FFD of 45.46mm, while the Nikon F mount has a FFD of 46.5mm.

which would mean that you cannot mount a Pentax K mount to the camera without optics while maintaining infinity focus.

All the other adapters on the market will either be optic free and not give you infinity focus. Depending on the lens that could mean you get just a few feet of focus and the lens is only good for macro, or maybe at best some close portrait work. Or they have optics in them and they will focus at infinity. The problem wit that is usually these optics are very low quality and will cause loss of light, and sharpness.

I have run into a lot of similar problems with switching from Canon over to Nikon and having a lot of M42 glass that no longer works for anything but macro work. I can't believe I cant use my Helios lenses anymore. :*(

I have a Fotodiox M42 adapter for my D800 (for my Helios and Super Tak lenses :). It has infiniti focus glass.

yeah it has optics in it which, while i am assuming are high quality because fotodiox makes some very high quality products, are still adding another element between the subject and the sensor. There will obviously be some loss of light and potential loss of sharpness.

If you get a quality adapter im sure these problems are minimized but i just long for the days i was on a canon where that wasn't a problem.
