Is there a Tablet that's useable as a monitor and to copy files?

I'm pretty sure that you cannot do this with an iPad, but since there are so many tablets out there right now.

Is there a tablet that can

1) be used as a general viewing monitor from the camera for the director?

2) Download files from you camera to an external USB hard drive? This would be very useful for shoots where I am traveling and have to be light.

Yeah that's my thinking, but hey... he asked. Could be there's a cheaper solution, that's just the first I came across that kind of says "Yes it's possible."

as far as I know: no hdmi-in yet - and usb host controller is not easy to come by either (unless you're ready to rootkit your tablet)

It's high time the vidcamera/DSLR and the Tablet became interoperable for monitoring purposes. I keep harping on about it on MacRumors. Let's see if Apple or Android are listening at all.

I know. Seems so logical to have a tablet that can be used as a monitor as well as copy files to an external hard drive. I would buy a iPad in a second if it did that.

hot from computex: some of the new windows 8 tablets have thunderbolt (e.g. acer w700, which also has an intel ivy bridge ULV cpu and a 11.6" 1920x1080 IPS screen); being windows 8, I'd guess the full spec is in use and they can be used for copying files; no idea on hdmi-in yet (I'd guess it's not there, but it could be)

Slightly off topic; but GoPro just released a wifi remote for the Hero 2, that will allow video streaming to a phone or tablet. For $100!
The technology is clearly available, and seemingly inexpensive.
Hopefully some enterprising company will make a widget cheaper than the Terdek....

It's even cheaper than that for just the Wifi Bacpac. Without the remote, it's only $60!

Definitely gonna pick one of these up. Beyond just seeing what your GoPro is recording, it also lets you know if it fell off the car! XD

GoPro produce some really innovative accessories for their cameras.

Surely an innovative company (like BlackMagic) could produce something similar for any camera with an HDMI out, to be received by any wifi enabled gadget....
