Is there a new Firestore-type recorder coming?

I remember someone bringing this up awhile ago. Kit Hannah perhaps. He was talking about a Firestore-type HDD that will be much nicer to use than the Firestore, which I don't like. I'm looking at buying a Firestore for an upcoming feature but will wait if something else is on the horizon. Anyone know?

Wait until NAB if you can. There's slated to be a bunch of new recorders released by various manufacturers.

Looks tasty at under $2K.

Cineform, AVI, or MOV recording in 4:2:2 10-bit from 23.976 upwards to hard drive or CF.

I think the next version with dual link HD-SDI will be the one.

Still vaporware..... but from a reliable and respected company so we'll expect to see it.

I'll be at NAB this year and will be helping cover what's new from the respected manufacturers. FYI, the video reports will be on the Studio Daily and Digital Cinema Society Websites.

considering the ever dropping price of P2cards, i wouldnt see there being a huge demand... at least not as much as 2 years ago...

I usualy record uncompressed and it´s day and night, compared to DVCPro HD.

In my book, Cineform is the next best thing to uncompressed.
So even if the price for two 64 gig P2 cards drop to the price of one Cineform Recorder, I would prefer it over any DVCPro HD compression.

But to each his own, some folks are quite happy with it - I´m not, but I´m a quality freak and uncompressed is my personal fetish - so ignore me.

Nnovia was actively working on a solution to this, but I believe the company was purchased by Datavideo. I don't think they ever released their DVCPRO-HD 100 version. I met with Harn Sooper, who ran the company and actually saw first hand a working version, but they were having trouble working the bugs out and they may have scrapped it, especially since they were purchased. I am still actively looking for a solution, even a DIY solution.

The whole problem is the firmware for the device. Getting it to be reliable is a difficult task. I was even thinking of spending the money to turn a handheld computer with firewire capability into something that can record and stream live, but it's an expesive endeavor.

I'm going to actively start messing with it I think.

Step 1- buy a portable handheld computer fast enough to do something....
