Is there a filter for this effect

How do I re-create the same type of lens flare on a HVX that a Russian anamorphic lens produces? In Transformers, they created the flares from scratch in post with AE. However, I was wondering if there is such a filter that exists

Russian Lens that produces flars

Not that I know of.

I don't really know why you'd want to. It'd be a hell of a lot easier to control in post.

I have seen an effect like this in the Magic Bullet Looks 2008 Suite. But you need to either be very carefull to ONLY get the hotspot at high levels when you shoot, and keep the rest of the scene at low levels. So that only the lamp is creating the flare and not all the small blowouts on the scene. You also control the threshold of the flare generator.

But an easier method would be to bring the footage into AE. Double the layer. Mask the hotspot in the top layer, and add Magic Bullet Looks only to that layer. Set it to ADD or similar blending mode. This will blend the effect onto the original layer beneath.

There is a filter. Ryan O'Hara posted a link to it on a cinematography thread a while back. It creates authentic believable filters but is very costly glass. I suggest using the search function.
