Is there a FAQ explaining the 25P, 25pn, undercranking etc?

Is there a wiki or faq explaining the P vs. Pn? Also what happens when I shoot slowmo or fastmo in these modes. I have read a lot of posts on this, but I still find it hard to understand, cause all of these posts usually mention NTSC, and I dont understand all the 3:2 pulldown thing. I just need some wiki-overview. :)

There is no pulldown in 25p modes, so you can ignore all that.

25pN records however many frames per second that you specify, and plays them back at 25fps. So if you specify a frame rate of 50fps, then you'll be getting 2:1 slow motion. If you specify a frame rate of 12fps, you'll get 2:1 fast motion.

25p mode doesn't involve slow or fast motion playback; it instead results in frame duplication (because the broadcast/recording stream has to comply with the broadcast standard of 50fps). So 25p, normally, results in each frame being recorded twice.

Barry Green's user guide that ships with the camera is an excellent "wiki and more" for things like this. I just got my HPX170 a couple days ago, and I am already on page 32, soaking in every word. I already can see that I will be reading this book more than once, and will probably use it for reference as long as I have the camera. This is my first HD videocamera, and I am a video noob, so there is a LOT to learn. If you do not own a 170 or 200, or have one but without the book, I would strongly suggest that you go out and buy this book. It's also been printed with spiral binding, which is extremely handy.

Thanks Barry!
