GH4 Is the iMac with 5K Retina Display able to playback GH4-4k timelines in realtime?

Has anyone tested the standard $2500.00 version of the New iMac with 5K Retina Display and will it playback GH4-4K FCPX Timelines in real time without dropping frames or other problems/hiccups?

All comments will be appreciated.

I wish I could answer this for you, as I to am very interested in the answer. I would assume that with over 16gb ram, the upgraded processor and having the SSD option it would be fine. (Though I would recommend buying the hdd, and ram at the base level and then upgrading with a kit from OWC or the like in order to save hundreds, if you are a bit tinker inclined)

I can't speak for the new iMac, but my late 2013 Macbook Pro with 2.3 ghz i7, 16GB of ram and GT 750m with 2GB of memory runs 4K footage from the GH4 in editing programs perfectly fine, so I have to assume the new default iMac which has slightly better specs minus 8GB of ram, would handle it even better.

I've had some people say that the way to go is with the specced up i7 and 295X, they haven't all agree on that but most have said it would do the job. I guess my only remaining question would be, once the 4K clips are actually in the FCPX timeline and you add some titles and effects will it still playback without any glitches at full resolution?

Working on a 4K project right now on an iMac Late 2012 model with 8GB of RAM and it plays. However, your safe bet would be letting FCPX transcode the footage to Proxy Media, which doesn't look bad at all, and uses less computer power. Once you're done cutting, you can switch it back to Original Media for delivery.

Manufactures are pushing us into 4K and that’s understandable, at least from their point of view. The question is, because 99.9% of us will not be able to deliver a project in 4K, should we let them get away with it?

Your Thoughts…………

I'll probably be buying 2 C100ii cameras in early 2015.

If someone says that my footage is inferior since its only 1080p, I'll upscale to 4K, upload to YouTube and giggle. Seems to be time before lots of 4/5K monitors and h265 becomes relevant.

This takes me back to NAB 2014 and a thoughtful conversation with some very well respected Video Professionals. After seeing all the new 4K equipment at NAB I think this group discussion summed up 4K best. https://vimeo.com/91442061

I know this doesn't address the OP's performance question, but it may interest someone.
I have a 2013 MacPro and a 32" 4K (UHD) monitor. My wife has the new 5K iMac (faster processor). She doesn't have FCPX on the IMac, but as far as viewing 4K vids, there is no comparison. A 4K video on a 27" 5K display is quite unimpressive compared to a 4K vid on a 32" 4K screen.
