Is the HVX better in SD than DVX??

I'm looking at getting a DVX100B soon, but now I'm thinking......
Most of what I do is plain 'ol 4x3 SD...at least for the foreseeable future.
I am interested in some 16x9 SD though. I am totally sold on the look of 24P though, so Panasonic is definitely the way I'm going.
My question is....how does the HVX compare to the DVX in 4x3 and 16x9 SD?
Is SD recorded in DVCPro subjectively better than DV?
I'm asking now because I have a friend who happens to be a Panasonic dealer who can get me a real good deal on an HVX right now. If the HVX is no better than the DVX in SD, then I won't bother with it.
I'm an old analog guy, so I'm trying to get a handle on this digital compression thing....
Thanks
Guy

Native 16x9 chips, one stop slower, same image quality to tape as dvx. This is what I have read here. Trying to make the same decision very soon.
Should I stay or should I go now...

Never forget 4:2:2 color, when recording to P2!

My choice would always be HVX. I almost shoot erverything sd like DVX. But what I'm now going to do is recording erverything and editingn dvcpro50(4:2:2) and downrez and write it to minidv. That looks much nicer than the regular dv mode, while you stay minidv.

I have heard that SD when recorded to the DV tape transport is OK but nothin' special. Maybe SD to DVCPro50 on the P2 is better?

When recorded to the DV tape it's DV, just like a DVX is (except that if you're shooting 16:9, the HVX will benefit from its native 16:9 chips).

When recording to P2 you can choose DVCPRO50, which is noticeably better. Twice the color sampling and a lot less compression.

Barry, a small HVX question :) :

When recording for 4:3. does the HVX gives you full screen in the lcd?
