GH2 Is the GH2 being discontinued or what?

Or is it going to stick around as a lower cost option since the GH3 is a higher price?

I ask because I'm not seeing any fire sales on them via Panasonic like they did with the GH1.

I would consider the $499 body price that has popped up a few times in the last 1-2 months to be a "fire sale" price. The GH2 body was selling for almost double this price 6 months ago.

Yeah but it keeps going back up. So it doesn't seem like a "selling off remaining stock" kind of price. Just a regular sale every so often.

It was selling for $500 around the holidays. That seemed pretty cheap for a lot of people & it was the price used GH2s were going for.

I'm guessing that they probably won't try to really clear out GH2 stock until there is plenty of GH3s on the shelves.

I missed out on picking one or two up as a B cam during Christmas.... Samy's had them but I missed it by a day or two. Anyone see one of those $499 deals lately?

Texas Media Systems looks to have the last good deal on the GH2 with "kit" lens. B&H has gone back up to $749 (and $649 for body only) and I think that's where their price will stay until existing stock is gone. And that won't take very long at all.

Amazon's stock of new GH2s seems to be gone, they list some used from various vendors.

I've noticed the price creeping up for new cameras and I am guessing it is because there aren't very many GH3's in the pipeline yet and if you want the GH series and either can't wait for the GH3 or can't afford it, the GH2 is your only option. I've noticed some used GH2's have even gone up in price in the last week.

I was one of the lucky ones who was able to grab the GH2 with the kit lens from Amazon during the holidays for $499. Just sold the lens for $99 so picking up the body only cost me $400 - just like the GH1 sell off.

The GH1 deal was a little better. It was $375 for the kit with $25 shipping direct from Panasonic. I was lucky to get in on that one. It's just too bad I lost my GH1 a year and a half later.

Granted a $100 difference is nothing to complain about. Especially considering I bought my GH2 back in October for $465 used without a lens. Had I waited a little longer I could have got the deal you got. But I did get a couple Sandisk Extreme cards and an extra battery going used, so I don't feel like I missed out.

Whatever you do, don't move to Britain. It's the rip off capital of the world.

GH2 is still the equivalent of $1291 on Amazon UK.

Prices of cameras are always high in the months after Christmas. So you gotta learn to purchase during the black Friday Thanksgiving to Christmas eve window of time.

The deal of the century right now is actually an odd camera - The Pentax K-01. $399 with a $249 lens included. That's $150 for: A top 17 sensor (same as the D7000, Sony NEX5N, etc)
APS C mirrorless It does H.264 1080 @ 30, 24, 25 720 @ 60, 30. Interval timer built in. Focus peaking, full manual control over video. External mic, stereo mics built in. Bulit very solid...lots of metal. Quirky design....but the flop that it was means one heck of a deal for those interested in good photos and pretty good video. Most of The video samples out there are poorly shot, the ones where the user knew what they were doing are pretty damn good.
It lacks an EVF...but at $150 who cares...ha ha
