FS5: Is the FS5 as good as the FS7 in HD?

What I find interesting is that this guy claims that 8Bit 4K when reduced is just as good as 10bit HD. In theory that means you can shoot 4K and deliver a 2K DCP as if you had filmed the entire movie in 10bits. That is basically what he is saying.

Yes, and for a large part this is true. The massive resolution increase results in a better image when scaled down. This is not a "claim" by him, it is largely understood.

I'm not trolling. I'm asking questions. Those who are trolling are the guys who have nothing to say but try to accuse others of trolling just because they don't like the questions. To me they are the trolls. And if I were to check their posts and accuse them of trolling, perhaps I would be the troll. So cut it out. If you're not interested in my posts, dont read them or make your own posts.

Fine. If I set my criteria on five requirements: 35 sensor, interchangeable lens, 422, 4K, and XLR inputs. Where does the FS7 fit in on a comparative budget scale? Are there cameras that do it for less?

I sincerely hope you did not put "XLR inputs" on your short list because you are planning on recording your main audio into the camera and using that! :-o

Cheapest one that meets those requirements? Probably the Ursa Mini Pro
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicursaminipro
Or you could go for the Ursa Mini 4K if you want to ditch the built in ND filters
and 4.6K oversampled sensor and save a few bucks. But even the Ursa Mini Pro is
$5995

The URSA Mini 4K sensor is so bad however, I wouldn't recommend it.

From BMD the two I'd recommend are the URSA Mini Pro or the BMPCC4K (when it ships). Is really hard to recommend anything else as a better option from BMD than those. (excepting being the original URSA Mini 4.6K if a screaming deal on it is found secondhand, but new the price is too close to the URSA Mini Pro)

Outside BMD, of course the Panasonic EVA1 and Kinefinity Terra 4K are the other lower budget 4K cinema cameras I'd recommend.

Just get the FS5 already. You clearly want it haha. Seriously though, you've posted everywhere on DVXUser numerous times asking roughly the same questions over and over. Every time someone tries to explain to you why the FS7 is vastly superior, you keep arguing "but the FS5". So, it seems to me and likely everyone else on this board that you really are wanting the FS5 and are trying to make sure you're comfortable with the purchase. If that's the case, then just do it so you'll be happy. It's not the FS7, but it's still a nice camera. Not trying to be rude, just pointing out the obvious so you can get it and move on.

Agreed, it truly does seem like the OP doesn't want advice, he just purely only wants people to tell him to "go get an FS5".

Personally the FS5 would be very low down on my list of cameras to use for a feature film, probably only if I got it for a screamingly good price secondhand like US$3K would I shoot a feature with a FS5.

If none of the other cameras I've mentioned already appeal to you, then I'd probably just go with 2x BMPCC4K cameras rigged out. Even buying two, and rigging them out, they'll still came out way cheaper than a FS5!

but price should not be the reason, even if it's 2.000€ difference. If you work 3 yrs with it it will be 55€ a month.
Don't forget the URSA mini is really heavy of you attach the battery.

Yup, but the EVA and Terra 4K are both surprisingly very lightweight! :-)
