Is the EX1/3 at a disadvantage to the AF100 for budget cinema production?

I've considered that, but often shy away from rentals of lower end cameras.

I'm a firm believer in getting to know your camera really well before you try to do something with it. For me, owning a camera gives me the ultimate freedom to try as many situations and menu settings as I want until I get the 'formula' for the look I want in each scene. I'm hoping that there will be a shorter learning curve if the F3 is so similar to the EX1/3 menus. My favorite picture profiles may even work.

Also, Indie shoots often take longer simply due to the fact that many of the people have other commitments and just aren't available every day. On a major production, if you have a 21 day shooting schedule renting for 3-4 weeks will cover it. However, on an indie shoot it might be 6-8 weeks. Then we're getting into a significant portion of the cost of the camera.

There's always buying it on the 6 month with no payments plan and selling it off at the end, but I'm sure I'll want the camera at the end.

If I use my Nikon lenses I'd only be in $13,300. The batteries, recording medium and rails will work with both.

If you go out theatrically you'll lose a chance for Syfy premier which is some of the only real money left on the table.
