Is Sony in the Lead in Camera Sales?

I'm looking at how Sony sells camera sensors to Apple for their iPhones, Nikon cameras use Sony sensors, how the Sony FX series is in the lead with freelancers and documentarians in my area, I've seen plenty of professional photographers use Sony A7S cameras, the Venice is popular on TV and Film.

To me based on the overview of these statistics and the amount of profit Sony is making, it looks like the company that has survived the Covid pandemic and the increase of AI and smartphone usage is indeed Sony.

So are they in the lead in the market right now?

For overall camera sales, Canon leads by far with 48% of the market. But you may be talking about some particular segment, which may be more difficult to verify.

If you add in the sales of Nikon and Apple which uses Sony imaging sensors, there's a bit of surprise of how Sony is winning compared to Canon.

Sony+Sony Partners makes more than Canon... I think?

You would have loved some of the talks about this very subject back in the day, 7-8-9 years ago.

The infamous Canon vs. Sony wars were more alive than ever, RED users frowned upon everything, Blackmagic had a very tight, diehard group which mostly kept to itself on its own forum and the late BMCuser, Panasonic MFT users were always defending themselves (lol), and almost no one talked about ARRI because most of the 1% using them don't know what forums are.

As mentioned, totally depends on the person, the work, and, in some cases, the area you're in.

In short, little by little, year after year - starting around 2014/2015 - Sony kept changing and growing and changing and growing - and, I think, mostly took over the Joe and Jane freelance/YouTube world.

The cameras just had too many features for great prices, the best-of-the-best.

And even though the color science wasn't always loved by everyone, the AF made up for it.

[One place you'll still see tons of Canon stills cameras is at sporting events.]
