Is P2 FAT32?

Are the P2 cards formatted in the FAT32 or NTFS file system by the camera?

If it's FAT32, what does the camera do when the filesize for a clip hits 2 GB?

Yes it's FAT32.

2GB is a non-issue. FAT32 allows files up to 4GB in size.

When P2 recordings hit the 4GB limit, it automatically and seamlessly creates a "spanned clip", starting another recording and putting pointers into the file to point to the previous and next clips. Using this method it's possible to record for extremely long (even infinite) record times.

BTW, DVD-video limits size of one VOB file to 1GB, but no one experiences file-change gaps while watching DVDs.

True. What we do experience though is the layer-change gap. That is not a file issue, it's a physical recalibration issue when a DVD player has to change layers on a dual-layer DVD.
