Is OIS really good or bad?

did anyone get bad impression of OIS function when on tripod?
sometime before I shot a conference with OIS on. when I stop panning, it takes a while to stable, looks like something hit to the Tripod.

Is it ok to turn OIS off? :Drogar-Mad(DBG):
But also I have noticed very tiny vibrations when it is off. I am using 701HDV head.

I only use OIS when using fig rig or shooting handheld. According to the manual, you should turn OIS off when using a tripod.

I have shot in situations where small vibrations are shaking my tripod (people walking on crappy floors that were flexing was one cause) and OIS is a good way to clear that up.

However, you really don't want to be panning and tilting with OIS on, so I would turn OIS off when I wanted to make a move, then turn it back on once I stopped on a stable frame.

There's a Canon lens that can differentiate between intentional tripod movements, and accidental vibrations. Unless you have that lens, turn OIS off when on a tripod.

As others have said, OIS is really only for use hand held, and I always have it turned off when tripod mounted.

It should be turned of on a tripod. But it is better to leave it on on a monopod.

The 701HDV is not a bad head. But it is not the best on a tripod with the HMC150. I have one, but use it occasionally on a monopod instead of a tripod.

On a tripod, I use the bigger 503HDV. But when zoomed in, you may still notice some small vibrations if your not stable.

Totally right on the tripod but I've had some bad experiences when it was on when I was using it on a monopod so now I turn it off on the pod... The difficult thing is that it's hard too see the shudder when you are shooting, but in post you'll see it alright...

Smoothcam on FCP can take some of it away.

Maybe you had some bad experiences with OIS on when using a monopod. But this has not been my case! I always turn it on and I don't have issues.

That G11 does have a load of nice bells & whistles like a thumb wheel for exposure compensation. Help a forum Newb out willya?
