Is my FCP fried??

Started yesterday when my razor tool wouldnt cut any clips. Then certain clips would only show up as black in the canvas window, but would show up in QT export files. Shut it down, restarted, same problem.

Tried again today, and now no clips, from any project, across many different formats, will show up in the canvas or the viewer windows. My cursor will play in the timeline but its not reading anything. Occasionally there will be a digital "glitch" noise that I can hear and which registers in the audio meter.

It's a legit copy of FCP 6.06. Should I re-install, not sure how to do that but I can prob figure that out. any ideas?

I'm running Macbook pro dual core duo 2.4 with 4gb ram.

found tutorial on how to do this, next us is a re-install.
 
so the preferences appear to be the issue, so far, running some more tests. I probably should have done some googling before crying to dvxuser for help! But thanks for the help indeed.

No worries!

It happens... and when FCP starts copping an attitude, trashing prefs is usually the first thing to try (if quit and relaunch doesn't help).
