hi,

i bought a used dvx a while back, well i only just noticed a faint green line running down the left side of the captured image, check the link to see what i mean.

http://vimeo.com/7010437

I made a dvd copy on idvd and it didn't show in 4.3 mode displayed within a 16.9 tv. But its visible on utube and vimeo.

I contacted the seller about this and he said it was common for most tape based cameras and its something you will see on most dvx's. I'm not sure, what do you think?

Probably something with the pixel shifting... I'm seeing a dark blue line on the right side too so. The TV is probably overscanning, so it's cutting that part out, where as Vimeo doesn't overscan. If it bothers you that much, just crop it, it's probably all of 1-2 pixels wide.

whats pixel shifting? and yes after spending a lot of money on a dvx.. a green line down the side of my image does bother me.

The sensors inside the camera a purposely slightly mis-aligned by about 1/2 a pixel. The green sensor is slightly off set from the red and the blue. It helps produce a better image. So what I'm thinking is happening is you're getting a little bit of the area where it's just the green sensor, or the blue and red sensors crapped out (dead pixels) in that area.

well i'd appreciate any other opinions or if anyone else has encountered this on their dvx?

Is it possible that you shifted your image slightly to the left on your NLE by mistake? I don't know why this would cause the green line to appear but it does look like a vertical line is absent on the far right.

Do you see it on the LCD or EVF? Do you see it when you shoot squeeze?

hi, i don't see it in the LCD and i'm not sure about the EVF maybe. As i mentioned i emailed the seller and he said he noticed the line too, he said it was common among tape based cameras and that most dvx's have them, he said his friend had a line on theirs too. The seller said he contacted panasonic and they assured him that it was within quality control acceptance. Im not sure though? I dont think there should be a green line going down the side of the image. Opinions welcome

neither have I on my dvx. but for awhile my 42inch vizio tv had a line that came and went. the technician said it was (what was said above) dying pixels luckily my tv was still in warranty.
I would crop the the edges.

the seller is feeding u bull( or is mistaken)...this is not common on most tape based cameras at all. Nor is it common of the dvx. maybe its ur editing process as someone else pointed out.

The seller is mistaken. Sounds to me like he doesn't even know what you're talking about; he just wants to get you off his back. Forget about him.

Determine where in the pipeline it is surfacing. If it's not visible on your LCD or EVF, that's promising. Check your EVF carefully. How are you capturing? Check the file upon capture. Which NLE are you using? Is it visible in the preview window? Etc.

thanks for the replys

yeah the line is on all captured footage, i use FCE, the line can be less visible depending on what color / how dark the frame is. The line dosn't seem visible in the LCD because its prob over scanning, i think it may be in the EVF harder to tell. When i contacted the seller he said he was aware of the line and as i mentioned above he said it was suppose to be common in DVX's etc etc.

Well its not common of the dvx...and ur in the dvx forums. He doesn't know what he's talking about or is being dishonest. Put ur display aspect ratio to 4:3 (Squeeze mode will looked squashed, but u get to see the whole frame). That should show the whole frame in the lcd.

Hi, i only see it in capture, vimeo and utube upload and not through idvd burned dvds, i dont have any other dvd burning software. As i said the seller knew about the line but didn't bother to tell me. It shouldn't be a big problem if i crop my projects by a few pixels cos the line is only maybe 5pixels wide, although i'd rather i didn't have to,
