Is Meta data useless for FCP users?

I've been fiddling with metadata files and trying to get them to be useful for me, but near as i can tell, the meta data does nothing for the workflow i use. I thought when assigning a user clip name that the actual MTS file name would be affected, but it seems to use 0000.mts etc no matter what. any pointers here? Am i doing something wrong?

I made the meta data file with avccam viewer. saved to sd card. read that file into the camera. set meta data record to "on" set filename to "type 2" and no joy so far.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, tim

Tim, if no one responds, give me a week and Ill check it out when I have a cam here. I usually use Shot put pro - but want to check where metadata can be tagged and captured.

Sounds good. I use shotput pro as well, and then use log and transfer in FCP to transcode to prores. Currently i use the clip name function in Log and transfer to add the name i want. But for shoots where i hand over raw cards, i'd love to be able to count on the meta data being useful to FCP editors.
