Is Lumix 12-75mm/F2.5-3.3 HD OIS really on the way?

Hi, everyone!

Since the rumor, I have been curious to see if this lens really exists, fell in love with it, and I stopped buying optional lenses. :love4:
I was looking to buy the following:Panny 14-45mm or Panny 14-140mm or Tammy 17-50mm f/2.8 or
Olly 14-54 f/2.8 or even Canny FD 35-70mm or etc... or... so on.... :undecided

But I waited for this Rumored Panny lens. And still I am not seeing that coming anyway.
Can someone confirm about this please, so I could go ahead and buy my GREAT Gear.

Very Thanks! :)

Just go and buy Tamron 17-50mm.
It is very good lens (for proper purpose - like shooting interviews, etc, as it will be 35-100mm).
You can add wide lens to this (either Panasonic 14mm or Tokina 11-16mm later).
As for rumors - people who write them do not have reliable sources 99.9% of the time.
So, do not count on them.
14-140mm is also good, but this is video lens, for different purpose (good AF and OIS), quite dark.

If you need something soon, I wouldn't wait around. I have the Tamron 17-50 and have the Oly 14-54 at work. The Tamron is awesome, but I'm really liking the Oly better most of the time. The autofocus option and slightly longer range are both very nice, even if it loses a half step of light at the long end.

Oly 14-54 is good, yes. Problem is that it has electrical focus (not direct like Tamron), as far as I remember.

Do their both autofocus work in GH series with video? Both lenses?

I have the Olympus 14-54mm Mark II and it auto-focuses in AFS mode on both GH1 and GF1. Make sure to get the Mark II version, the earlier version does not auto-focus with the GH1.

As lpowell mentioned, the Olympus does AFS on the GH1 and I would think on the GH2. But, as he stressed, make sure it is the Mark II version. The Tamron does not autofocus on the GH1, because it's a Nikon mount. I use an adapter from Jinfinance (eBayer) that allows me to control the aperture from the adapter and all focusing is done manually.

How can you tell a mark I from a mark II version of the Zuiko 14-54mm? I was going to buy secondhand in Japan

It's marked on the side of the lens as "II". Olympus is alarmingly subtle in distinguishing the upgraded versions of their lenses. If it doesn't say "II" somewhere in the description, you can assume it's the older version.

Thanks for that. The blue ring is a nice give away. I noticed that some of the secondhand sellers don't list on their auctions whether it is a mark II or mark I.

Looks like a nice lens that will be fast enough for my everyday usage

I've been thinking about this fantasy lens for a while as well but what I do know is that if such a lens were to ever exist, it will definitely not be cheap compared to your average Micro Four Thirds lens. I mean you could be talking at least 2k or more for this kind of lens. For sure if that fantasy lens had a 1k price ( still not cheap), they wouldn't be able to make enough and you'd see headlines all over the place. It would definitely make a great bundle with the GH2 or ever the AF100.

Mark i will autofocus on gh2, though, according to panasonic compatibility chart. Apparently not as well, however.

I just received my GH2. The oly 14-54 mark II can now auto-focus while shooting video, you have to push the button but with GH1 this operation could not be done !
My favorite lens so far. 2.8 aperture with 1600 iso without noise looks great for me ! But be careful, auto-focus is noisy if you need sound.

How well does the LEICA D 14-50mm F2.8-3.5 and the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 work on the GH1 and GH2? out of my price range currently but just curious

I agree if this fantasy lens does come out it will be expensive, both of those lens I just listed is close to a grand already

Would be great if they release some fast video optimized lens

I've got to figure a way to send it voltage for VC and use a potentiometer for changing the iris and it would be really nice

? I don't think that it is so simple as providing voltage only :-)
As for iris, I use Pentax DA to m43 adapter (about $30), works with this Tamron :-)

I bought a 14-50 to try on the GH2 and AF performance is highly unstable, hunting for long periods then usually ending up on the wrong subject, though according to Precision Camera it may need to be repaired. It would not work on the G2 either and would work some of the time on the Pens. I have another copy coming next week so we'll see if it's the camera or the lens that's the culprit. Have tried the 14-54 II Oly and some of their other zooms, they all worked well especially the 14-54. Their 35 macro technically focuses on the GH2 but is incredibly slow, hunting a long time (but at least is accurate)

Well I just got the 2nd 14-50 Pan/Leica in and it doesn't focus accurately either. So either I have 2 bad copies of a 14-50 (which both focus perfectly on the L1 by the way) or Panasonic needs to update the firmware on the G2/GH2 or for the lens or remove it from their list of compatible lenses for the G2/GH2. A shame too because the images you get with manual focus are nice, even wide open

Where have people even heard about this lens? I read a lot of blogs but I've only ever heard about this particular description (12-75 f/2.5-3.3) of the Panasonic mentioned "bright zoom" from individuals, maybe I missed it on 43rumors?

I also appreciate the lens suggestions but there's a ton of threads for those, I would like to hear some more info about where these rumors about 12-75 are coming from...
