is Lacie 1TB Rugged hard drive fast enough to handle 1DC 4K footage???

I have a Canon 1DC and intend to shoot talking head interviews in 4K. But as I'll be on the road, I'll need a fast portable hard drive for backup purposes as well as rough editing.

I've heard a lot about the Lacie 1TB rugged hard drive. But I see that the hard drive speed is only 5400rpm.

Would this drive be fast enough for editing 4K footage from the 1DC with Premiere Pro CS6?

I honestly don't even consider the 1DC 4K codec to be something I'd try to edit with natively, and certainly not in any kind of mobile setup. If you can figure out a proxy workflow, that'd be one thing to consider. Otherwise, I'd probably transcode to ProRes444 and be done with it.

Sorry guys, I should have mentioned that in my initial post. I totally agree. I wouldn't dream of editing the footage natively. I would first use Mpeg Streamclip to convert the footage to Pro Res and edit only after that. Can a 5400rpm hard drive handle 4K pro res footage for editing or would it choke??? Should I be looking at a minimum 7200rpm?

In Premiere CS6, I imagine you'd be able to edit without issue as long as you reduce your playback res to 1/2 or even 1/4, depending on the speed of your system. The 5400rpm drive may still be a bottleneck, even with Thunderbolt. Honestly, you may be better served by a USB3.0 solution (if your setup supports it) like this…
