GH3 Is it too early to ask about recommended microphones?

Yes, you did hit a nerve because there is so much misinformation on the web and in particular FCP X that it's a shame. I don't get the robust comment but I'll pass over that and quietly nurse the re-hit nerve.

So no, let's not argue. I don't want to derail the thread (apologies to the OP), but for those interested, here is some clarity.

Placing clips on the timeline ANYWHERE has been available from day one. I am still on 10.5 but I believe in the latest version there is the ability to export sections of a project (can't swear to that but I think it's available). Again, you can stick things anywhere you want. You never have to use the magnetic timeline if you don't want.

Check out the following link. The guy is far more eloquent than I am and knows Premier to boot (5th post down).

Happy editing.

P.S. And yes, novices can pick up the general working of things in FCP X very quickly. But the deep stuff needs further education, self or otherwise.

Well my apologies on the nerve. :) And I think I understand where it was coming from-- if someone insinuated that some tool that I was using for my work was a tool that only amateurs use, it would upset me. That's definitely not how I meant anything I said. And definitely to the OP, too. lol. I absolutely didn't know that about being able to turn off the magnetic timeline and place clips any where in it. And I promise that I have worked in it some. Now I didn't delve deeply into it, but I had to use it to be able to teach it. If you can make an in/ out selection to export from, then I may seriously start looking into it again. If I get a chance, I'll see if I can find out. But if you find out for sure sooner and don't mind, send me a PM (so that we don't keep derailing the convo, lol). I'd like to look at it again if so.

But still, I think my transition will be into Adobe's suite. I'm getting better at After Effects. I love the titling system in Premiere. And I can get a really great educational discount on the entire suite and have everything up to date, unlike now.

Yeah, the deep stuff is always going to take more time. It was a pleasure teaching even the novice students FCP X, and they were able to pick it up quickly and make something good. Then a few of the more advanced students were able to go on and explore things like filters and effects that others didn't. There were talks of me teaching Premiere and I was dreeeeading that. lol. But that should be taken as a complement to FCP X.

All you have to do to place clips anywhere is turn off the magnetic timeline by using the "P"ostion tool by pressing P on the keyboard. "P"retty easy. If you can't figure that out by just reading or googling then you shouldn't consider yourself a professional editor, "P"eriod.

Now, back to micro"P"hones.

Wow. Seriously? lol. I think I remember why I stopped visiting this board for a while.

Adapted, my apologies for my recommendation that you had asked for in post number 6 here on a couple of editing platforms that might work for you and a simplified pros/ cons list for the two has led to this on your thread. I was enjoying and learning from my exchange with stone, but this from dusty was just uncalled for. Now back to microphones, editing platform suggestions (which he asked for, and hopefully we can not get into controversy this time), and where to get a GH3 shipped from. :)
