Is it possible?

Maybe not all the features; what I mean is:

- Interchangeable lens system
- 2/3" CCDs
- Native full frame 1920x1080 capture
- AVC-Intra100 support (+ AVC-HD, DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO-HD)

All in an HVX200 compact body size and weight? (or MUST the camera be bigger, like the HPX500? if so, why?)

I'd buy it if it were a Panasonic and mildly affordable....

I actually wouldn't mind seeing the 500 in a 200 size...

? That would be the 200.

Quite the contrary.

HPX = 2/3" imagers, Higher grade imagers

Better DOF, Better image quality

HVX does not have removeable lenses....

When I said 500 in a 200 size, I meant like a 500 in a JVC HD-110 body fashion... That would be cool.

a newboy's question: what is- AVC-Intra100 support-
sorry guys, just three weeks with the hvx...

AVCIntra 100/50 is the newest Panasonic Codec. Similar to DVCPro HD just a little better in image quality plus 1080P Native formats, which DVCPro HD can't do. AVCIntra is better than DVCPro HD, AVCIntra 50 is equivalent image quality to DVCPro HD at half the datarate. There's also AVCHD, which more like a replacement to HDV.

Yes, I am just wondering if it is physically possible to put 2/3" and interchangeable into a compact, lower weight design using same batteries, etc. as the HVX200. Obviously it would be more expensive - but I'd love those features at a size and weight of the HVX200.

So, this 'support' works with hvx200? i've been looking in the internet, but just saw the hpx3000 with it...
and if this intra works with hvx, how to 'install it'.

Red put a S35mm sensor in their body and I don't think it is that much bigger then an HVX. It is heavier though.

ya that's what i thought too. the red looks small in pics but in person is actually pretty huge.

it may be possible to squeeze 2/3" or even 1" chips in an hvx sized cam but it probably won't happen. that would obviously cut into sales of the bigger cas and since an hvx sized cam would have to be cheaper, they would ultimately lose money i think. they will keep the hvx somewhat limited for this reason.

AVC Intra will not work with the HVX200
Comes installed with the HPX3000
Optional for the HPX2000 series

"Still waiting for my AVC board"

It's not "quite the contrary" in terms of operation, general image feel, etc. It's in many ways exactly the same, which is what I thought you were referring to.

I think the 500 is the size it is because it needs to be.

The EX1 has 1/2" imagers in a body of the size of the HVX. That is half way up to 2/3" imagers. So I suppose there could be a 200 form factor with 2/3" imagers, maybe slightly heavier and bigger. I heard the only problem of such a small form factor is cooling. (In fact, the EX1 has a fan)

But Sony also showed that they were willing to construct a small camera that has the same if not better image quality than their XDCAM line of fullsized shouldermount camcorders. So why shouldn´t Panasonic try to squeeze the HPX in a 200 formfactor? I´m sure they will do so when the pressure of the market is there (For example big EX1 sales that hurt the 200 and if they can produce such a cam clearly below 10 K, IMO) ...and if there´s no cooling issue.

I would love to see the HPX500 in HVX200 size, even if it cost MORE than the HPX500! The HPX500 is just too big and heavy - that is a benefit for many things, but for other things, a hindrance. It would be nice to have too options, IE, HPX500 full size, HPX500 mini (kind of like the iPod lines) - maybe the only real difference though being the HPX500 full size you could switch out the components like EVF, etc. and have more P2 card slots, and it would be native shoulder mounted and use bigger batteries.

The HPX500 compact would have everything else still, ie 2/3rd CCDs and interchangeable lens, etc.

Besides, you NEED 2/3rd CCDs now for sensitivity to equal the DVX100. In my opinion, HD has set us BACK - more resolution, but low light for live event coverage where you can't light stuff sucks. And I want interchangeable so I can get a zoom through 20x for football games, or get a wider 10x zoom through for music videos, etc. Of course you could still use adaptors, but you'd have the option to change out the whole lens!

Yeah the HVX set me way back. I really long for my old Sony
Hi8 and my XL1 miniDV. And the variable under/overcrank function.? Well in MY day, we stayed in the real time now moment and used our NLE editor to achieve slow motion. If God wanted us to shift time he would have given us film cameras. KEEP FRAME BLENDING ALIVE!!
