I've been trying with no success to capture/stream/record 720/24p into FCP via firewire. If anyone has done this successfully pleae post a step by step process; it will be greatly appreaciated. I just want to explore all alternatives to P2.

many thanks!

Ok, let me esplain myself:

Background: We all know how expensive P2 cards are, so I am trying to figure out how many recording modes I can capture directly into a mac/pc using a NLE like FCP/Premiere.

I started the experiment with FCP.

If i set recording mode to 480i and FCP to 'uncontrolable device' and Capture/Input to DV NTSC 48kHz it works fine. The minute I switch recording mode in the camera to 720 or above, I loose the connection to FCP. I also get a message saying that the codec is not present and that I might be trying to capture for a codec that i don't have a card for.

Basically, I just would like to know what modes (if possible) can I capture directly from the camera into FCP; and how to do it. So far I've managed to capture only in Standard Definition.

Thanks!

You need to go into your Audio/Video Settings and change the capture preset to DVCPRO HD-720p24 48kHz. Set Device control to Non-Controllable Device. You also need to make certain the camera isn't set to 24PN, because Final Cut can't capture the native frames.
