Is it possible (pulldown observation)

I recently shot some footage in 24p(advanced) mode, but then I had to mix it with another camera's footage (30i), so I had no choice other then to work in a 30i project in Avid (Xpress pro) and not go with native 24p. I was expecting to see 2:3:3:2 pulldown from the footage I shot on DVX. However what I see is 4 progressive frames followed by 1 interlaced. Which to me says that Avid (even in 30i project) interpreted the footage as 24p, removed the pulldown and then performed the pull-up (is that the technical term? :D) and added one frame for every four to make it 30 fps? If that is true it would be amazing, I don't see the reason to use 24p(not advanced) anymore.

Any comments? Please let me know if i'm missing something.

Yes, you are missing something. WHen advancing frame by frame on the computer screen, teh source/record monitor only show 1 field or 1/2 frame. When looking at footage with pulldown, 1 field display of 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2 will look like 4+1.

Michael, then how do you explain that in quicktime (which does show both fields) i see the same pattern -- 4 progressive frames followed by one interlaced?

Re: Is it possible (pulldown observation)

ADVANCED cadence is only 1 interlace field per 5 frame cycle. NORMAL pulldown would should 2 interlace frames per 5 frame cycle. I was referring to the Avid source/record monitor that NORMAL and ADVANCED would look the same (4+1) when only looking at 1 field or 1/2 frame.
