Is it not a good idea to import video from my dvx100a?

I just got a new DVX100A and it is the only cam I have. I am using Vegas as my editing program and I have no other means to import my footage into my editor. Is there any danger in doing this? I don't want to ruin my new camera but I have no choice but to use it as a deck as well. Any suggestions?

Also I shot some 24p footage last night and imported it into vegas, was I supposed to set any particular settings for 24p?

I just got a Panasonic DS65 to use as a deck and it has DV in. Got it for 200$.

By using your DVX as a deck, it will lower the resale value and is demanding on the heads.

that and you should be wary of the firewire port issue- plugging it in while powered up can short the connector.

If you do capture from your cam- which is fine, make sure you cam is not turned on first. Best thing to do is to hook up the cable, turn on your pc, then turn on your DVX.

Or, you can play it safe and buy a cheap minidv like newbie. Also you can do a search on ebay for a parts cam. Just put in "MiniDV parts" or "MiniDV as is" and look for cams where they play fine, but cant record becuase of a bad lens or bad mic. You can pick them up for about $25-40.

Thanks a lot guys. Edweirdo do you live in AZ? If so what part? I am curator of a new festival starting here and would love to see some of your work.
