Is it me??

I've been downloading the HVX footage and following an eye on it for quite a while.
Is it because of compression to see over the internet and that I am not seeing what this camera REALLY is capable of?

The footage looks "fuzzy" and compressed, NOT sharp. And the colors seem very muted and dull. Doesn't seem as "punchy" as DVX footage.

I've proudly owned a DVX and love what it can do. I'm hearing that the HVX is like the DVX, just more resolution. Shouldn't it have WAY more color considering it works with 4:2:2 color space?
And is it sharper than what I'm downloading off the internet?

Do I just have to get my hands on one of these personally to really see the justice of this camera?

I know that the full-rez HD file I uploaded looked a whole lot better than the compressed version...when you see the footage coming straight out of the camera, it's really amazing...

That's the funny thing about it, is that Web delivery compression is fairly insane. Makes DV and HDV seem lossless. ;-)

I think it's safe to say though that if you don't actually have one and experiment with it, you're not going to be very qualified to draw any conclusions. Your read the crap on some forums and you'd think the thing was a miserable failure. I've never seen a failure you couldn't buy, but whatever.

I can tell you, having posted some footage, that my footage is mediocre because of me. I haven't set the camera up and lighting like I was shooting a movie.

The wolves footage, and the other 30p snow footage is outstanding.

My cemetary footage isn't lit right, the sun was bright and I was shooting amongst a lot of trees, but if you watch it in DivX format, the detail is there. It is equal too anything from any other HDV format.

scenedirector,

Forget what you see on the web, from ALL these cameras. Go check out the HVX200 in person (the same way people will watch your real-world footage). You fuzzy, not sharp & color concerns will dissapear instantly.

Get an HVX and a JVC side by side at the same time and place and see what you see... but don't base decisions off internet clips if you can avoid it.

web compression is kinda a snafu.. go download the new X-Men 3 trailer and you will see, noise, compression, blocks and all that fine stuff.
