Is it "all" or "nothing"?

I realize that the subject of 24P normal and 24P advanced has been posted since the inception of the 100. When I first read Adam's article, it all seemed pretty clear to me. If you're not going to film, use 24P normal.

I'm not at all sure that's the case today and I do need some clarification on the subject.

Here is what I want to accomplish and within these perimeters, what mode would be best.

I shoot with both the 100 & 100A. I do high end weddings using 3 cameras. For those of you who have ever shot a professional wedding, you know that you only get one shot. No retakes! You don't have a DP and you have virtually no control over anything, including lighting, sound, blocking and most importantly, you shoot from where they tell you to shoot.

I'm shooting in 16:9 using mostly anamorphic lens, and sometimes the squeeze mode on my 100A. While the ceremony is pretty much shooting from a stationary position, the reception is another story with lots of movement, run and gun, crazy lighting, etc...

Now for the question.

If I want the best quality (picture wise) and I don't plan on taking the footage to anything but DVD, what setting should I use? (footnote-I use FCP 4.5 w/G5 with 2:3:3:2 pulldown and 23.98)

Next question.

Can I mix and match 24P (either normal or advanced) with 60I on the same timeline? The reason I ask this question is that with 24P, any movement is really exaggerrated, and we have to do alot of hand held techniques.

I know this is a very long question, but I wanted to include just what I'm doing in order to get the best advise on what to use.

Any help or suggestions on this would be deeply appreciated.

If you're making a 24P DVD (which I don't think you are, but if you are...) then 24PA has an advantage.

If you're making a 60i DVD, or you intend to be mixing 60i footage in with your 24P footage, definitely stick with 24P Normal mode.

It definatly sounds like you want to stick with the 24pN. ANy time 60i footage comes into play then use that, just edit it on a 29.976fps DV timeline and you will be fine mixing the two. And if worse comes to worse, you wanted to make a 24p dvd from your 24pn footge, no problem, it can still be done, but it requires an extra compression cycle.
