Is Final Cut 7 dead?

Hey guys,
I have been using Final Cut 7 for all my editing needs for around 2 years now and I've become very comfortable with it. I keep hearing people saying that Final Cut 7 is dead and whatnot--is this true? Should I start training myself to use other editing systems such as Premiere? I honestly tried using Final Cut X and I absolutely hated it, it was like iMovie on crack. My biggest fear is that I'll be using Final Cut 7 and fall behind on technological advances...not sure if that makes sense. Any suggestions/ advice?

There are dozens of threads on this issue in the FCP X forum.

Might want to start there.

FCP 7 runs just fine on Mountain Lion.

Also, it might be helpful to indicate what technological advances that you anticipate "falling behind" in, the type of work you do, whether you follow a collaborative workflow, audio needs, color correction, etc.

Also what cams you work with or intend to work with, whether native editing of certain codecs are necessary, etc.

Hey David! Thank you for the reply! Currently I shoot with a Canon 7D (ProRes422 LT ). I'm not really sure how I would fall behind actually, prob a studpid comment. I've just become really comfortable with FCP 7 and I hear everyone boasting about how great Adobe Premiere CS6 is and how I need to make the transition.

fcp7 running fine on my end, used every day, bringing in revenue everyday, fcp7 is very much alive, specially if you run a business, we also use adobe cs6 when needed but we find ourselves going back to fcp7 when the project allows

My 2 cents worth to this is, if you still find it does what you need and want , then go on using it. Go on till you see that it lacks what other packages offer, that you would need for work.

I use it. Happy (ish).

Now I shot a projct and edited it, but left some black areas in the TL to be filled in by someone else..

Title graphics and some generic stock footage that would be sourced by my client.

Popped the project and rushes onto an HD and sent it to them - happy bunnies

When clients cant open it, its dead for me.
