Is DVX100 required for 24pa or 30p capture?

Is the DVX100 required for digitizing footage if you are shooting 24p advanced or 30p? Or, can a basic DVCAM deck like the Sony DSR-11 work just as well from DV tapes shot with the DVX100 (24pa or 30p).

I normally digitize all my DVX100 tapes from my DSR-11 which is plugged into my suite at all times, but I wasn't sure if this still allows proper progressive output into my editing app (Vegas & Premiere) or if for tapes shot at 24p/30p I needed the DVX100 to do the capturing.

The info is on the tape so it doesn't matter what "deck" you use to capture into your NLE. However....remember that a Sony uses a wet lube tape and you may do damage to the heads when using a dry lube. I hope you're not using Sony tapes in your DVX.

Now that you mention tapes, I've been having lots of tape droput problems with my DVX100b. I haven't been using Sony tapes though, I've been using Fuji instead

I've only had the camera a few months and only used Fuji tapes on it since day 1 -- but, I've now had two serious drop outs (where I actually lost footage) and I see small drop outs here and there.

Should I use Panasonic tapes for the DVX100? If so, will these be a problem on my DSR-20 deck?

I have to do something, I'm thinking of taking the camera to Panasonic for a good head cleaning and switching brands -- maybe Panasonic. Again, haven't been happy with the Fuji tapes on the DVX100.

I remember my uncle (who is an authorized camera repair-guy), saying that Sony, TDK and Fuji tapes tend to lead to many dropouts, no matter if you switch brands or not. They just leave a lot of dirt on the heads, he says.

Anyway, use panasonic MQ tapes, at least that's what everyone recommends. I use JVC tapes and couldn't be happier.

Use Panasonic's AMQ's, they're worth every penny. And use new tapes for important filming. I only use a tape twice.......but second time is for test shots only.

As for the DSR-20......I don't know. You'd have to ask Sony if Pany tapes are ok to use.
