Is DVX 100B still worth getting?

. . .with all the new equipment coming out. I need good sound, xl ports, low light performance, 24p . . .around $2k

Yes....I am supposed to be selling mine with all the accessories but I hate letting it go! Amazing picture and guys are making HD footage from the DVX that still looks amazing. Excellent sound, all the buttons and functions you need, progressive and GREAT images.

I sure hope they are !!!!!

I just bought mine two weeks ago. It had 10 hours on it and cost me $1350 which I thought was fair.

Before "pulling the trigger" on it, I read lots of forums, watched a ton of samples of HD etc, and felt for my needs, it was going to do me as well or better than the HMC40 for the time being.

What I seemed to notice, the quality of HD I saw depended a lot on the proficiency of the shooter. I saw a TON that looked SD or worse.

The thing that kicked me to the DVX was reading and seeing the preview review on Adobe Premiere CS5 and how well it sliced and diced and scrubbed native AVCHD files like they were SD. It looked slick !!!! The requirements were the latest and greatest 4 core, a good or better video card and 12 gig of RAM, MIMIMUM, 24 gigs RECOMMENDED. All my computing is done on a laptop, and there isn't one made that will handle those requirements.

Thanks for the info guys.
Awhile back I traded my Sony Fx1 for a new Nikon D300 and lens combo. It was just sitting there after four jobs in which I found out the limitations in the sound area. I was not going to feed a mistake and keep adding 3rd party add-ons, plus it had no real p24.
It intimidated the subjects sometimes. I did like the native 16x9. The HDV I never really used because I was always downing to SD to make DVDs or go to web. HD storage was another matter.

yeh then the dvx100b is for u. just shoot squeeze mode for 16:9 and buy barry green's dvxbook. its sold on amazon. it will help GREATLY.

I got mine just a year ago. It had about 49 hours on it and is still blowing me away with the images. It's exactly what I wanted and if and when I go HD it will have to be something like an EX1.

I just put this video together. My 13 year old son operated the DVX100b in the snow with a rain cover over the camera, a polarizer lens attached, light was gone half way through and he had NEVER operated any camera before.
So the images were bad but the camera just kicks butt even with an inexperienced boy operating it!!!
The last image is a Cu shot and gives a hint at what the camera really captures.

No question about it. You can grab one for under 1400 if you're smart about it, and throw the extra you wanted to spend on a manfrotto. When i purchased mine used i had the option between the dvx100a and a canon xha1 and i chose the dvx. Depending on what type of footage you are looking to produce, the only upgrade that would make it worth it is to the hvx line for the 60p (atleast for me in the snowboard filmer/editer world).

For a while I have been thinking about trying to sell my DVX and get an HVX, but I realized that the DVX is still an amazing camera with a certain image that no other camera gets! A lot of people are switching over to HD and tapeless, but really, SD resolution is just fine. I just got a firestore so the tapeless issue doesn't really matter to me now. I would much rather get a DVX, and several accessories than get a HVX or HMC150...

I guess it all depends on what you use it for, but I simply love this camera. Every time I pick it up, I get happy. I want to go around searching for images because the feel of it- the weight, the way the zoom ring feels, the lens, the image options- all make you want to learn and search and- you know- enjoy filmmaking.

Today in a classroom, some kid pulled out the hmc40, talking about how nice the HD was. I said I had a DVX and he just scoffed and said "the DVX looks horrible compared to this". Now, in the resolution area, yeah, he's right. But I could tell just by the way he said it that he had no intention of actually taking advantage of the extra detail, he was just trying to impress people.

People who point and shoot don't deserve to us HD cameras or DVXs for that matter. Let them buy the flip HD and be done with it.
