Is Barry's HVX book helpful for HPX user?

The HPX has already a nickname: HVX's big brother. So there 's my simple question: Are the settings and results of the HPX so similar to the one of the HVX that it is worth to buy Barry's HVX book and use it with the HPX?

Much (85-90%) of the operation between the cameras is the same, so yes, it's quite helpful -- as are the HVX BootCamp DVDs.
 
All the main menus are identical. There are a couple of new menus for battery setup and lens setup, but mainly all the menus and operations of the HPX500 and the HPX200 are identical. Take one look at the menu structure of an HPX500 and you'll feel right at home.

Not so with the HPX2000 and HPX3000. Those are in a whole different league.

We should probably try to discourage the adoption of "HPX" as the moniker for the 500, because while there's only one "HVX" in Panasonic's lineup, there are currently at least three HPXs. We would probably stave off confusion if we referred to them as "the 500", "the 2000" and "the 3000".
 
Also the footage of the HVX and the 500 is similar with equal settings? (despite dynamic range, sensitivity, noise and DOF, of course)
 
Haven't gotten ahold of a production model yet so I don't know that we can answer that question yet. My guess is that they're going to be in the same ballpark, yes, but until we can work with the final serial-numbered units that remains a guess.
 
I found Barry's Scene files included with the HVX book very helpful. Great time saver for different looks. I wonder is it possible for someone to do something similar with the 500? As I am about to take advantage of the deal on this new cam.
 
The exact same scene files will work with the 500. I mean, I don't think they'll load directly, but the same settings will work if you manually enter the settings.
