Is Arrested Development shot 60i?

Definitely looks like 24p... not smooth enough to be 60i... though it's been a while (too long for that matter...) since I've watched the show.

Time to bust out the DVDs!

(Fantastic show, by the way)

I'm pretty sure they were shooting 23.976 on the Varicam.

Looking over that article it sounds like they're referring to the fact that the Varicam is laying down 60fps on tape at all times (even when shooting 23.976).
So they had the added step of having to strip out the duplicate frames in post to get their native 23.976fps files.

From the article:
we needed portable, reasonably small cameras that could give us 24p images
the Varicam captures its images at 60fps, thus requiring an extra post step of converting to 24p.

Would they have meant 60i instead of p? As in the hvx capture 24pa within the 60i.

Thanks a lot guys. Just cause of the doco style my brain was kinda thinking it may have been 60i.

Actually no, the Varicam shoots DVCProHD 720P which has no interlaced variant, it's a 60 progressive frame per second based codec (which is why we're able to shoot up to 60fps slomo with the HVX & Varicam, for example)

The HVX captures 24PA within a 1080i stream, which the Varicam doesn't do (Varicam is 720P only).
In 720P mode the HVX simply records the native 24fps or pads the signal with duplicate 'flagged' frames to fill out the 60P signal (which is how the Varicam does it due to the need to keep the tape speed constant).

Ah, thanks. I remember now reading it was 720p and I think only 2/3 ccd chips, right?

Have official Varicam specs been released yet? It's going to be killer.
