Is anyone using 5D2RGB?

I see that folks in the GH2 sector are using 5D2RGB or Neoscene to transcode with good results. Just wondering what people are using for the AF100 - anything new or are we just straight ingesting into FCP?

I use 5DtoRGB. It bypasses Quicktime for the transcode. Quicktime looses information and adds noise when transcoding H.264 and AVCHD/AVCCAM footage. Log and Transfer, Compressor, MPEG Streamclip, and most others use Quicktime in the background for doing the transcoding. You can install the Panasonic AVCCAM installer to view/edit the native MTS files or you can rewrap them with programs like Clipwrap into MOV's, but playing and editing the native format can be processor intensive depending on your machine. 5DtoRGB takes longer to transcode, but the results are amazing. I was very skeptical when I first heard of it, but when I eventually got around to testing it and noticeably seeing the different, I was kicking myself for not doing it earlier. Try it compared to Log and Transfer, you'll see the difference as well.

Marvelous, cheers mate. I'll invest the $45 and if it's terrible I'm coming after you and your dog! LOL, kidding! By the way, I use FCP 6. Maybe I should upgrade to 7? Heard not so flattering things about X.

Spend the money for the batch program, it's always being updated.

I've tested out the upcoming beta and things are working great. Like RCX for RED footage, 5DtoRGB is for everything else to me. No longer touch Log and Transfer.

Thomas also has some very sick updates coming in future versions, stuff that I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate.

I use FCPX, and I'll never go back to 7 unless I have to. All the problems with FCPX was fixed in the last update.

Really? Wow, okay.
How about snapping? Are you able to engage snapping?
I heard the interface is utterly different. Are the controls any different? Commands still remain the same right, or am I going to have to get a tutorial?
I'm so comfortable with FCP6, I don't have to think.
I only have snow leo as well. Might I need Lion?

5dRGB is the best... I don't know how it pulls out so much from the shadows, but it does, and once you know you'll have info down there, you can really start exposing for the highlights properly. Try it!

And while you're at it, make sure to try Dirftwood's latest, Orion... What he's now done for skintones is way beyond what I ever thought I could get from the GH2.

It's way different that FCP6 or 7. You'll have to relearn, but it's worth it in my opinion. You could always engage snapping. Snow Leopard is fine.

This is the AF100 forum not GH2.

How are you guys handling the gamma when using 5D2RGB? Do you ever bake in 1.8 or 2.2? Or just use it to straight encode from h.264?

AFAIK FCPX used AV foundation the replacement for quicktime... does FCPX transcode as well as 5DRGB i.e. using FCPX should I invest in 5DRGB or stick with FCPX transcoding

I was under the impression that AV Foundation just handled the playback, not the transcoding. I could be wrong. The test I did with 5DtoRGB to notice the difference was with Lag And Transfer in FCP7. I'll do a little more research on AV Foundation and do another test after the weekend.

AF100 ??????????

I disagree, go with 1.8 for expanded latitude, and use Rec 601, not 709.
I've relied on 5DtoRGB as my transcoder for a long time.
