I'm not talking about Home Depot stuff here.
I've got a few ballasts that I had professionally modified for controlling/dimming 2 compact flos like the ones I include in my other lights. These ballasts run (2) 55w compact flourescents or ANY OTHER flourescent load up to 110w continuous.
These ballasts started out as IceCap 3000 ballasts which you can view by going to IceCap (google it if you like). They are super-high-frequency 100% flicker-free.
The cost on them from anywhere in the country is $70 per ballast plus ship. Mine were worked on by an affilliate of IceCap which supplies stuff like this to Bausch and Lomb and other companies which need precision lighting control for industrial applications. In this case I have the same ballast setup that is used in curing chambers for contact lenses.
I've got about $160+ shipping in each ballast and it doesn't look like the price will go down enough even with volume for me to offer dimming, 2-light flos... so I'm looking to sell a couple of these.
I also have manufactured, as well as my own custom, reflectors and all other parts needed (except the outter shells for twin-light fixtures... but you can house this in anything that fits... there is not a signficant heat issue) which I can supply as part of a kit.
Basically I have everything you need for a completed 2-light dimming flo-fixture.
Okay here is the disclaimer... The ballasts dim from about 50% to 100%, but the pots will allow you to adjust until the light goes out. If you play around with a Kino fixture the same thing will happen at a lower point, but they have trimmed their pots so that you can experience a full turn rather then having a point where the light will go out while there is still turning range left. The Kinos will also go to a lower output before dimming goes to off.
I'm looking to sell these to people who are genuinely interested in doing their own DIY work. IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS ABOUT YOUR DIY ABILITIES THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.
I will help you with this in any way I can, but if you're a klutz then skip it.
I'd like to get $120 each out of the ballasts... and if you want a full kit (minus shells and tubes) then $150 each.
Again this will take some work on your part to create the lights you want... this is for all the "guts" that you need to make it work.
