GH13 Is a step-Up ring + Fader ND MkII (52mm) too much weight for the Panasonic 20mm f1.7?

Hi

I already have the Pana 20mm f1.7 and a LCW Fader ND MkII (52mm), and want to use both together, but I'm a bit worried about the weight. A step-up ring and the Fader ND will be too heavy for the 20mm focus mechanism?

Anyone has used something like that?

Thanks

I don't think it is that heavy. as long as it is only a filter, not a full matte box you put on, it should be just fine.

I've occasionally used a 77mm FaderND Mk2 (or, more often, one or two conventional 77mm ND filters) together with a step-up-ring on my Lumix 20mm lens, and so far have not had problems. However, I'm also concerned about the stress this puts on the 20mm lens' focus mechanism.

A more expensive but safer (for the lens) alternative would be to mount filters in a matte box on rails _instead_ of mounting them directly on the lens. I already have a matte box on rails (which I use with other filters) but haven't invested in a set of 4x4 ND filters for it yet.

But so far, so good. YMMV.

I've hung a Canon WD-58 0.7x wide adapter (plus step ring) off a 20/1.7, and it still works perfectly... so, no, the fader shouldn't break anything.

I got a 55-62mm stepup ring and a 62-62mm spacer ring off ebay. The stepup ring fits around the lens, leaving the lens' 46mm filter ring free for a UV protection filter. I carefully glued the stepup ring to the lens, then added the spacer ring so that the 62mm lens cap from the kits lens will clear the front of the 46mm UV filter. (This sounds more complicated than it is.)

The advantage? I can use all my 62mm filters (including matt box, etc.) on the pancake lens. And I never have to worry about stressing the focus mechanism.
