I got message from pd that g2 is 350 dollar. Not bad! That is good deal or no? I want to match it with my gh2 for b roll and back up. What opinions here about g2? Lol! Is there hack job for g2?
I try and make some research about g2 and look like no boogie woogie 24p got 30p and 60p and 25p and 50p but I confuse if its europe model or usa model or do all g2 have all 4 frame rate? Omg! I'm confuse. And I got sony begas 10, I never mix 24p or 25p? Always keep same rate. Its problem? I want to mix gh2 and g2 footages. And also no 1080p just 720? Omg!!
I noticed over here in Japan the G2 has been getting quite cheap, supposedly for the release of the the G3 in March/April. But you would think they would have made an announcement first
And I don't expect them to be able to produce more than a hundred or couple hundred of those by the first quarter of the next year if the current trend keeps happening. Looks like China has most of the tech world by the short and currlies currently. Everything from Tablet slates to camera and fridges are being slowly rolled out form there.
I was tempted to grab a g2 with a pancake package from PD but with the way they screwed me last time I'll someone else take a gamble. I'm curious how they are packaging the 14-42 with the G2 package when they are supposedly out of the 14-42, looks like another possible PD snafu about to happen.
Another curious thing about prices in Japan, the GH2 is going back up in price, almost to what it was when first released. Not sure what is causing it, but some here on the msg boards speculate there is a supply shortage.
Can the G2 do true 720p50/60 I didn't think the sensor was at 60fps? If it can I might get one just for that, I find I am using that mode quite a bit
$350 is a good price for a G2 body. If it comes with a kit lens it's a steal. The G2 shares many of the improved features of the GH2: touch-screen focusing, 3x Extended Telephoto mode, and auto-focus support for Four Thirds lenses that did not work with the GH1. In addition, the G2 is the only model that supports Continuous Focus-Tracking during video recording. I've tried this feature, and it works quite well (though slowly) with the following Micro Four Thirds lenses:
In addition, the G2 can be hacked with most of the same patches as the GH1. (Unfortunately, the PAL<->NTSC patch does not yet work.) As Vitaliy points out, the G2 lacks 24p and 60p video modes, and provides the same MJPEG and AVCHD-Lite video modes as the GF1. This makes the G2 ideal for hacking with my Fast Action 3-Frame GOP Patch, producing high bitrates in both MJPEG and AVCHD 720p30 modes:
Thank mr. Lpowell sir. I'm happy face to know the hack job work on g2! Omg. I got few question. Is there hack job faq or website? Hack is free? Does hack job give g2 40mbs bitrate? How about 24p? 1080? Or just bigger bitrate? I read g2 have 60p, but use guys say really only 30p, meaning 60p is just really sucks? I really smoke myself by not getting gh1 for $375, so maybe I could get g2 for second best.
Like the GF1, an unhacked G2 records 720p60 videos in AVCHD-Lite mode. However, since the sensor is scanned at only 30p, each frame in the video is simply duplicated. With PTool, you can patch the G2 to produce 720p30 AVCHD videos which make optimal use of the camera's hardware capabilities. A PAL G2 can be likewise be patched to produce 720p25 AVCHD videos, but the NTSC<->PAL patch does not yet work on the G2. Also like the GF1, the G2 has no 1080p or 24p video modes.
